Gold-medal treatment for manufacturing masters: A video series

What do you do when your industry has a high turnover rate, even within specialized fields like pharmaceutical manufacturing? You treat your top performers like the champions they are. 

Our client, a global pharmaceutical company, wanted to retain exemplary employees and recruit professionals just like them. This campaign demanded a strategy that shouted, "We value your hard work!" This was the Olympics of manufacturing; these were the elite athletes. It was high time to put them atop a podium. Our concept aimed to (literally) surprise and delight our audience and show them how valued they are by honoring top performers.

Our Process

Careful planning and a little bit of secrecy

The client requested seven engaging and dynamic videos, each featuring a different award recipient, team, or site around the world. The catch? The subjects wouldn’t know they, their team, or their site were about to win an award. The videos would be shown at an upscale award ceremony in New York City, surprising the recipients in front of hundreds of their colleagues.

Working across our studios, we developed and pitched creative concepts, ultimately building out the client’s favorite one. Our in-house directors collaborated to develop subtle interview questions that would draw out the accomplishments of the interviewees without revealing the true reason for the interview.

Our Work

Filming in multiple locations

To capture the footage, we partnered with agencies in Italy and Ireland for pre-production and filming of employees in those locations. Our own crews handled filming in the U.S. With that footage (and our secret) intact, our animators crafted attention-grabbing graphics to display on-screen alongside dynamic footage of athletic achievements, a nod to the upcoming 2024 Olympics.

Handling all post-production in-house, we delivered a finished product on a tight timeline so our client could “wow” the live-event audience in New York and recognize some very deserving people.

Outcomes

An elated client, an inspired team

After rehearsal on the day of the award show, the client raved about how wonderfully it went. The President of Manufacturing — a leader with notably high standards — was "elated" (our client’s words, not ours).

The excitement was evident among the award recipients and the hundreds of colleagues who watched the surprise unfold. Afterward, all seven award videos were published on an internal website, garnering over one thousand views.
